Fortunate.

Lately this has become a bit of a mantra for me.  I want to frame it and put it in a playroom, it's that useful.  Because I think this is the kind of stuff people should learn from a young age.  Counting my many blessings, foremost of which is the amazing love I have from our tight little family unit.  What are you most thankful for?

Going, Going, Gone!

Our clan leaves on vacation in a few days, but mentally I've been there since last week.  We are headed to Jamaica for some much needed Caribbean beach time.  Here are a few items that I wish were going with me and are inspiring me as I pack... a girl can dream, no?

This Neve dress.  I absolutely love everything Sheridan French does.  Check out the how i wore it section of her site to see how versatile the collection really is.  I am uber drawn to these pieces because as it says on her site, "the fabrics are handmade on the island of Bali in Indonesia.  We work directly with area mills to ensure the finest quality of construction and never employ the use of child labor or unfair trade practices."  LOVE.

Speaking of designers I have a girl crush on... EmersonMade is seriously fabulous.  I am coveting this Tiny Stars Yes Dress and every other item in her collection... silky blouses and modern bell bottoms, yes please!  For some serious life lust check out this house tour on Design Sponge to see the farm she shares with her husband.

This lace tee from Urban Outfitters needs to be mine soon.  Would wear it with a denim skirt, wedges, and chunky jewelry for a casual Caribbean dinner.

I find myself saying yes yes yes to every item on this polyvore board.  Great for shopping and lunch with my best girl.

I have a cute straw fedora that I love, but lately as I grow more weary of sun damage, I'm looking for something with a bit more coverage.  The fact that this hat is designed for travelers has me sold already.

Hello perfect cover-up from Anthropologie.  Adore.

Coral crochet zigzag bikini, you are amazing!  I did end up scoring this flattering bargain suit if you are looking for something with a similar vibe.

Top it all off with some sunny yellow polish and I'm all set.

an eye for an eye...

‎...and soon the whole world is blind

I normally don't discuss politics on the blog, and I'm still not going to.  But in light of current events (the killing of Osama Bin Laden in case you've been under a rock somewhere), I would like to share these timeless words:

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

My Cure

"The cure for anything is salt water- sweat, tears, or the sea."
-Isak Dinesen

I find one or a combination of these to always be my cure.

Addicted

"Hi my name is Dion and I'm addicted to Pinterest."
"Hi Dion".....

I know I'm a bit late to the whole Pinterest phenomenon, but friends I still have to gush about my new love.  I just want to kiss whoever created it.  It has changed my life.  Fo real.

from my For the Haven board

See I've been collecting different forms of inspiration all my life.  From the colorful and unique buttons I would hoard at my mother's clothing showroom in New York as a wee tot, to the many (many many) notebooks and journals I filled in high school and college.  Cut to two days ago, I was dragging images to an unorganized desktop folder, bookmarking things I would never find again, and tearing sheets out of magazines.  Pinterest is like the love child of Martha Stewart and the blog world.  It's ridiculously organized and web etiquette remains intact.  Proper credit is given to each image and you can even click on the image to be brought to the article, blog post etc. it came from.

from my Take it Outside board

I crave visual stimulation constantly, so in short Pinterest is food for my soul.  It is the sister I never had.  When I get overwhelmed with the, ahem, joys of motherhood, it is my happy place.  I calms me and reminds me of my identity outside of being a mom.  And yes I may need a twelve step program here shortly because I am obsessed!

Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to my lover, I've spent too much of T's valuable nap time writing this post ;o)
